Dambulla, Jaffna begin campaign on winning note
National Super League 4-day champions, Team Dambulla, and Team Jaffna began the Limited Over Tournament campaign on a winning note beating Colombo and Galle in the matches played at Dambulla and Pallekele yesterday.
An unbroken 75-run stand for the seventh wicket between Ashan Priyanjan (50n.o.) and Dushan Hemantha (41n.o.) steered Dambulla to a 4-wicket win. Chasing 196 to win, they reached the target in the 43rd over. Earlier Lakshan Sandakan (3/53) and Dushan Hemantha (2/37) combined to restrict Team Colombo for a below par total.
At Pallekele, Team Jaffna beat Team Galle by 55 runs on Duckworth/Lewis. Jaffna, batting first, were bowled out for 233 runs with national cap Dilshan Madushanka ripping through the innings with a five-fer.
Janith Liyanage and skipper Sadeera Samarawicktama however played well, hitting half centuries during their stand of 102 runs for the fourth wicket. When rain stopped play Galle were reeling at 171 for 9.
