Recently, Samsung unveiled their latest flagship lineup, the Samsung Galaxy S23. As such, the lineup consists of the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus, and the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Does Samsung bring anything new to the table? Or are they simply slapping on a new skin on the Galaxy S22 and calling it a day? Well, yes and no. For starters, let’s take a look at the Galaxy S23.

Right off the bat, your initial impression would be that the Galaxy S23 has a lot in common with the previous generation Galaxy S22. And you’re not wrong. The design language of the Galaxy S23 remains noticeably unchanged, with a few under the hood improvements. For example,  the Galaxy S23 has the same 6.1”, Dynamic AMOLED, 120Hz display at the same 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution. Even the camera on the S23 is almost identical to the S22 with the difference being that the primary 50MP module now has a 24mm wide angle lens as opposed to the 23mm one on the Galaxy S22.

The storage is bumped up all the way to 512GB of ultra fast UFS 4.0 storage for all models except the 128GB variant, but it’s still not expandable. The front facing selfie camera goes up from 10Mp to 12MP with additional HDR10+ support. Powering all this is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which according to Samsung has been made “For Galaxy”, meaning that it has been theoretically optimized for faster performance and AI processing along with better graphics. The battery on the Galaxy S23 has also been bumped up from 3700mAh to 3900mAh but still only does 25W wired charging and also has the same 4.5W reverse wireless charging seen on the Galaxy S22.

The trend continues with the Galaxy S23 Plus. It’s the same display as the Galaxy S22 Plus and the only notable differences are the chipset and CPU upgrade along with the minute camera updates as seen on the Galaxy S23. So in practicality, the Galaxy S23 Plus is more or less the same as its predecessor. The battery once again has been bumped up to 4700mAh as opposed to 4500mAh on the Galaxy S22 Plus and features the same 45W wired charging capabilities with an advertised 65% charge available in just 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is where things start to shake up a bit. While the Galaxy S22 Ultra packs a 108MP camera, the S23 Ultra goes all the way up to a 200MP “adaptive pixel” rear sensor, making it the first Galaxy device to have it.  Accordingly, you can either shoot at the full 200MP mode, you can also opt to use pixel-binning (where the data from four pixels is combined into one), which delivers brighter, clearer photos. You can also choose to shoot at 50MP as well. Samsung says they have also improved low-light photography via a new AI-powered image signal processing algorithm. Other camera improvements are better optical image stabilization (OIS) and 8K video recording at 30fps. Do note that shooting at 8K will take up a significant portion of your phone’s storage. Since there’s no expandable storage either, it will fill up pretty fast.  In terms of pricing, the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus will retail for $800 and $999.99 respectively. THe Galaxy S23 Ultra on the other hand will start off at $1,199.99.

Are you interested in Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 lineup? Or will you be sticking with your current phone? We would love to get your feedback
