Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ tops UK singles
Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ has topped the UK singles chart thanks to the 11.4 million times the song was streamed ahead of the countdown. Released originally in December 1984, the song peaked back then at No: 2 and was prevented from taking the pole spot as Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ was the dominating song.

‘Last Christmas took 36 years to clinch the pole position of the UK singles chart and that was in December 2020. The classic track has been on the UK top 10 singles chart on nine occasions, twice between 1984 and 1985 and then after 32 years again on the top 10 where it has maintained a consistent presence between 2016 and 2022. Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ was written and produced by the group’s most popular member the late George Michael. The song was released as Double A side track then on vinyl along with ‘Everything She Wants’, which got airplay immediately after Christmas, to give it a longer chart life.

Michael Buble’s ‘It’s A Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ has been biggest gainer

Michael Buble’s ‘It’s A Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ has been the biggest gainer on the UK’s top 10 singles chart this week. The track advanced from 10 to No: 7 to level off at the point it peaked on two previous occasions in 2019 and 2021. The crooner released the song as a single in 2012, but it did not get much attention until 2019. The song was written in 1951 by Meredith Willson. Many artists such Perry Como and Bing Cosby have released the festive hit as a single, but none have had the success Buble has had. His rendition is taken off his ‘Christmas’ album.
