Old Thomians take home inaugural Lakshman Kadirgamar Trophy

Old Boys of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, led by Kumar Boralessa, laid hands on the first-ever Trinity-S. Thomas’ game of golf played for the late Lakshman Kadirgamar Trophy scoring 182 points on Friday at the Royal Colombo Golf Course.
At the beginning of a tradition, where the ex-foreign minister was hailed as the greatest foreign minister, his fellow college mates lost by a whisker accumulating 175. From the winner’s side, topping the list was Suneth Wijesinghe scoring 42 and from his counterparts Sajeewa Sumathirathna closely behind with 40.
“We need to grow the game of golf in Sri Lanka. The best way to do this is to give opportunities to young players. Having an inter-school tournament, like a cricket match, will encourage youngsters to take up golf and give them the opportunities to play on top courses alongside seasoned players. Lakshman Kadirgamar was a great Sri Lankan, honoured, committed and a well-respected intellectual worldwide. Any young player would look up playing a tournament in his honour”, said an organiser.
“It is also an opportunity for old boys of all ages to rekindle the great rivalry between the two schools”.
Old Trinitians were led by Ranjith Wirasinha.
