Car returning from night club in early morning crash; three-wheeler driver killed
View(s):A speeding car crashed into a three-wheeler last morning on Galle Road in Kollupitiya, killing the three-wheeler driver.
The accident took place around 6.30 a.m. Police said the car was carrying five persons, reportedly returning from a night club in Bambalapitiya and going towards Galle Face. It had hit the three-wheeler and crashed into a wall.
The car driver fled the scene while a woman passenger was assaulted by angry bystanders. She and another woman passenger were hospitalised.
The three-wheel driver was identified as a 58-year old resident of Kahatuduwa, Polgasovita.
Police Media Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said police had begun the search for the driver and recorded statements from the two hospitalised women aged 29 and 31.
He said that although liquor bottles were found in the vehicle they were unable to confirm whether the driver was driving under the influence of liquor.
