View(s):Singer and song writer RAYE makes her mark with ‘Escapism’
RAYE the 25 year old singer and songwriter from Croydon, London, has made her mark on her own steam ‘Escapism’ this week at it arrived on the UK top 10 singles chart this week. Two weeks into its release, ‘Escapism’ which depicts the horrible consequences of substance use in the video, climbed from 31 to No: 6 on the UK singles chart. It is the lead single from RAYE’s forthcoming debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ that is due out on 3rd February 2023.
RAYE whose actual name is Rachel Agatha Keen is supported on vocals midway on the track by the US rapper and singer 070 Shake. RAYE first gained attention as the featured artist on Jax Jones No: 6 UK hit ‘You Don’t Know Me’ in 2016. She did surface on the top end of the chart with had her own hit ‘Secrets’ featuring Regard which peaked at No: 6 in 2020. She collaborated with Joel Corry and David Guetta on the song ‘Beds’ which peaked at No: 3 in 2021. Her song ‘Secrets’ was taken off an EP. RAYE encountered frustration with the delay to release her debut full album for a prolonged period. In July this year she split from Polydor records and became an independent artist.
Dolly Parton is to record an album of rock songs
Country music legend Dolly Parton is to record an album of rock songs. The ‘Nine To Five’ hitmaker who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, is hoping to do renditions of iconic rock songs such as ‘Purple Rain’ by Prince, ‘(I Can Get No) Satisfaction)’ by the Rolling Stones, ‘Stairway To Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin amongst others. The 76 year old who has signalled an end to tours, is hoping to feature guests on the forthcoming album. Dolly Parton’s album of rock music covers is expected to be out in the latter part of 2023.
