The Royal College Past Teachers’ Association (RCPTA) celebrated its 127th Anniversary at the View Hotel in Diyatha Gardens at Water’s Edge recently.

The RCPTA started in 1994, with a handful of members and has since grown into a formidable organisation with 500 members.

It has launched a multiplicity of welfare projects for its members, remote schools, and the society as a whole. One such project was a medical facilities project that had made healthcare more accessible for members.

Foreign and local tours and frequent get-togethers offer members opportunities for recreation and association events are regularly published on the website and the bi-annual “newsletter.”

The association also funds a scholarship programme for hostellers of Royal College, whereby the expenses of several selected students are borne by donors.

Another noteworthy project implemented was a project to supply of purified water to many students of remote schools in the island.

The RCPTA has borne medical and funeral expenses close to Rs. one million for their members between November 2019 and October 2020. An allocation of Rs. 25,000 for surgical medical needs was also allocated following the financial review of the association’s annual income.

The association also provides other benefits for its members in the form of concessions on pharmaceutical bills. The City Pharmacy which partners with the RCPTA in this regard also provides doorstep delivery to some members with mobility issues.

The RCPTA executive committee dedicates its time and finances for the implementation of these projects and the association continues to provide members with medical and recreation support.
