Taking place at the Marina, Port City, against a beautiful backdrop of the Colombo skyline and a gorgeous sunset, Olu Swim Week was successfully drawn to a close last Saturday with designers bringing forth their A-game when it came to luxury resort wear.

Hameedia by Fouzul Hameed made quite an entrance with models decked out in tailored contemporary resort wear arriving onto the runway on a Sail Lanka yacht. Taking on the theme of ‘environment is luxury’, this collection used natural fabric dyes made out of tea waste to stain natural cotton and linen materials. The ensemble of male models owned the runway embracing the two-toned pastel and white hues, a running theme in the showcase.

Celebrating the joy and romance of the upcoming wedding season especially during a  pandemic, INDI by Indi Yapa Abeywardene chose florals, dimensional embroidery and exotic prints. Opting for a slightly unconventional colour palette, the collection played with different distinct hues. With dramatic drapes, luxurious textures and exaggerated trains, the INDI collection was virtuallya glimpse into a world of medieval princesses.

Vibrant colours, Moroccan prints and patterns made up the collection by Divya Jayawickrama. Influenced by the designer’s interest in Moroccan culture, the designs portrayed the brand’s artistic block printing skills with dresses, swimwear, skirts, sarongs and wraps. Titled ‘My Secret Beach’ the collection left the audience wanting to pack their bags and take a long vacation by the sea.

Ending Olu Swim Week on a high was Darshi Keerthisena of Buddhi Batiks. The designer’s signature batiks lent themselves to the Japanese kimono, a whimsical and ethereal feel imparted with stunning orchid motifs. Favouring fit, form, and functionality, it was a timeless collection.
