Counselling sessions for students will be introduced before schools re-open under new health guidelines, a Government official said recently.

Preparations to re-open schools have been planned under three areas covering health, psychology and physical preparations, the senior official said.

Initially, the Government is planning to re-open schools with less than 200 students before re-opening larger schools.

For schools with less than 200 students, preparations will start next week under the supervision of staff, Public Health Inspectors, representatives of the District Secretary.

The week after, guidelines will be issued on internal arrangements in the schools and how children should be sent to school.

A special counselling programme has been organised for teachers and students before academic activities begin.

“The objective is to bridge the gap created between the school, the students and the teachers, while online learning was conducted,” the official said.

He said during the counselling sessions, students and teachers will be prepared psychologically on continuing their educational activities.
