Created with an aim of providing school students and undergraduates a platform to design, build and familiarise with new robotic technologies, SLIIT’s annual robotic battle ‘ROBOFEST 2021’ is gearing for an epic showdown.

Organised by SLIIT’s Faculty of Engineering, the ROBOFEST 2021 competition in its 11th milestone year, provides the ideal opportunity for participants to demonstrate their practical knowledge in designing robots that can perform a challenging task according to the given criteria.

The competition promotes problem solving and other skills such as Embedded Systems Design, Embedded Systems Engineering and Microprocessor based Systems, Digital and Analog Electronics, Control Systems and Robotics and Software Engineering. In keeping with the challenges of the pandemic , this year’s competition will be held via virtual platforms.

ROBOFEST 2021 also provides an ideal groundwork for building teamwork and forging strong bonds among participants and industrial personnel, enabling everyone to share their knowledge and experience.

ROBOFEST 2021 is to be held under two levels: School category and University Category. The School category is open to students representing schools, regardless of their grade and up to five (5) persons in each group with any number of teams from the school competing. For this category, competitors will use robot simulation software to design and code a mobile robot capable of navigating through lines and achieve a set task while avoiding obstacles in a virtual space.

The University category is open to all undergraduates from universities and similar degree-awarding institutes. Each team will comprise of five (5) members and any number of teams from the same institute can compete and their task is to design and code a set of robotic arms to perform complex tasks in a virtual space. In this category.

Registrations are now open for ROBOFEST 2021 and applicable rules can be downloaded for interested teams via
www.robofest.lk. The final date for registrations from University teams is the 12th of September, while the deadline for registrations for the school category will close on the 20th of September 2021. The ROBOFEST 2021 finale event is scheduled for 30th of September. Attractive prizes are on offer for both categories.

SLIIT has also organized workshops/webinars for ROBOFEST 2021. Students participating are encouraged to join the webinars by registering via https://forms.gle/MgEF6iATv6mhBGvr9.
