New Bachelor of Education degree by NIE, available at 45 centres island wide

The National Institute of Education (NIE) has introduced a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree for educational administrative officers, principals, heads of pirivenas, teachers in pirivenas, schools and educational institutes to become graduates with international professional recognition.

This course is available at 45 centres throughout the country in Sinhala, Tamil and English, an Education Ministry official said.

This Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree consistsof 120 credits and it is available in fourteen subject streams as a four year course. The number of students following this course at the moment is nearly 4000 and they will be released to the education system at the end of this year.

The NIE is expected to enroll about five thousand students to this course next year and it invites all academics to join, to acquire necessary professional skills and strengthen the system by providing more meaningful services to the national education system.
