Nethmi Fernando won the Women's National Championship in 2020

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is willing to start the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship Cycle 2021, Open and Girls, with the Sri Lanka National Novices Division Chess Championships from last weekend of May 2021.

The event will be held as Swiss System events of five, six and seven rounds according to the number of participants in a weekend. Till 80 players, five rounds, till 150 players six rounds and over 150 players seven rounds.

The event will be held in 17 districts, which includes Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Badulla, Monaragala and Jaffna. The exact dates and tournament regulations will be published by the regional organisers by time to time.

Ranindu Liyanage won the Men's National Championship in 2020

The events will be organised according to the health guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports Medicine Institute of the Ministry of Sports. Mainly hand cleaning, wearing glows and face masks and shields, social distancing are compulsory. Parents can drop their children at the venue and come back for collection. Telephone facilities for players to contact parents are arranged.
