Susal wins Online Blitz Chess Championship as CFSL celebrate International Chess Day

Sri Lanka’s promising youth chess player, Susal de Silva of Nalanda College, won the International Chess Day commemorative Online Blitz Chess Championship convincingly. The CFSL conducted the event for 40 invited players and 36 players played were consist of former national champion, Rajeendra Kalugampitiya, current national champion and World Cup player Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage, President of Thailand Chess Federation N. Sahapol and President of Chess Federation of Sri Lanka Luxman Wijesuriya.
Susal, who is just 15-years-old, played strong and beat Jayandi Bimansa, Rajeendra Kalugampitiya, Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage, A.A.C.B. Amarasinghe and S. Harishman to score full points.

The International Chess Day falls on July 20 each year. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) was formed formally on July 20, 1924. Though FIDE was celebrating this day specially, as the day founded FIDE UNESCO proposed to make July 24 as the International Chess Day in 1966 and the chess fraternity is celebrating with many activities.
Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) arranged two programmes to mark the occasion. The CFSL inaugurated a training programme for 10,000 newcomers ceremonially in the presence of Hisam Al-Taher, the Secretary General of Asian Chess Federation and Casto Abundo, the Executive Director of Asian Chess Federation via zoom platform.
Sri Lankan first Women International Master, Sachini Ranasinghe and Australian International Arbiter Jamie Kenmure conducted the programme for two hours on July 20 and 21.
