Police protection has been provided to unload liquor stocks at the Sathosa outlet in Anamaduwa after a local politician in the area protested over the sale of liquor at the outlet.

On Tuesday supporters of the local politician prevented the unloading of the liquor stocks and turned away the lorry.

The local politician and his supporters opposed the sale of liquor at the Sathosa outlet as sales in a nearby liquorshop had dropped after a licence had been issued to sell liquor at the Sathosa outlet since July 15.

The manageress of the Anamaduwa Sathosa outlet had lodged a complaint with the Police about the obstruction.   As many as 15 armed Police officers in uniform and another ten officers in civilian clothing were deployed for the consignment to be unloaded.
