The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) has commended the Government for easing health restrictions on incoming passengers from non-travel restricted countries.

In a statement the THASL thanked the Minister of Health, the Minister of Tourism, the Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism and its Director General for their untiring efforts in facilitating the reopening of the tourism industry.

“We are delighted that Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is once again open with minimum inconvenience for visitors while maintaining strict health guidelines. THASL especially welcomes the decision to allow fully vaccinated persons to enter the country with only a single day’s quarantine, subject to negative PCR test results prior to arrival and on arrival. We also welcome the Government decision in allowing them to join the community and engage in inter-district travel,” it said.

The new, less cumbersome and more visitor friendly approach to opening up Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, is a testament to the constructive and positive engagement of the industry with the Government, THASL said, adding: “We anticipate further relaxation of restrictions once at least 60 percent of the population is fully vaccinated and the country opens up further.”
