Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) launched an online fitness programme to help shuttlers keep their fitness routines intact during the pandemic. The programme, named ‘Keep Shuttle Fit’, is conducted by the national coaches, and sees 28 players in the national pool and as many players in the challenger pool, taking part in virtually conducted fitness sessions at their homes instead at their regular training centres, under the watchful eyes of their coaches.

Apart from the national players and the challenge pool members, two satellite national pools in Ambalangoda and Kandy also join the Keep Shuttle Fit programme which is conducted on every weekday morning for a period of three hours. Players in the national junior pool also join the virtual fitness sessions.

SLB says this initiative helps players maintain their fitness levels during the lockdown as the shuttlers are unable to take part in regular training sessions amid strict travel restrictions implemented by the government to reduce spread of COVID-19.
