Deegawapiya is the fourth largest dagoba in the country, built by King Saddhatissa and enshrining relics of the Buddha.

The Deegawapiya Trust Fund is expected to raise funds through sponsors and devotees in Sri Lanka and abroad to complete the renovation project. In response to an entreaty made by Chief Prelate Ven Mahaoya Sobitha Thero, the President launched this project.

The official website www.deegawapiya.lk was launched to carry Deegawapiya Stupa restoration updates.

The first contribution was made by Na Uyana Aranya Ven Angulmaduwe Ariyananda Thero who donated Rs 100, symbolically presented to the President by the member of the Contributing Council Chandrakeerthi Bandara.

Symbolising the receipt of generous donations, the President received the cheques from a large gathering of contributors including Maha Sanga, Tri Forces, Central Bank, Maharagama Cancer Hospital and Bank of Ceylon ,Police and State and private institutions and donors worth of Rs 5 million during the ceremony.

In line with the renovation of the Deegawapi Dagoba, it is planned to construct four halls and a 20-room rest house to accommodate the devotees visiting the sacred site.
