FOS TV: A milestone for UoC’s Faculty of Science
View(s):“Great things are rarely achieved by just one person. Usually, they are accomplished by a group of people, and when everyone is committed to the overall goal, teams move faster with innovation and success.”
FOS TV is yet another such accomplishment by FOS media. FOS TV was in cyberspace all day from January 21 to 23, marking another paramount landmark in the FOS calendar.
It was an unprecedented and a remarkable event of FOS media; the official media unit of the University of Colombo’s (UoC) Faculty of Science, and was organised in line with the centennial celebrations of UoC’s Faculty of Science.
This massive project was co-chaired by Hasindu Welarathne and Limini Fonseka under the leadership of the current FOS media President Malintha Wijayaweera and his team.
“UOC Rhythm” was the first online radio channel launched by university undergraduates and
was initiated in April 2015. The following year, FOS media collaborated with UoC’s Rotaract Club and launched “UOC Rhythm FM-3220” as the second phase of the channel.
In 2017 “UOC Rhythm 3.0” was launched as the third phase of the FM channel. However, the success of the project in the previous years and the great demand of the listeners have encouraged the team to take up the mission up to a TV channel — FOS TV.
A wide array of programmes such as interviews, documentaries, educational sessions, entertainment items, movie reviews and special programmes dedicated to the Faculty of Science, its departments and various university sports and clubs were telecast on the new channel.
Programmes featuring UoC Vice Chancellor Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne and the Faculty of Science Dean Professor Upul Sonnadara were highlighted among the rest of the programmes in the lineup.
It was not as simple as being scouted or plucked from obscurity to arise to greatness. From the beginning to the end, a lot of effort, time, enthusiasm and dedication of many spirited FOS members were behind FOS TV. All members of the FOS media crew were seen to be working all through many days and many sleepless nights to make FOS TV a remarkable platform of conveying information.
It created long lasting memories for university students, the FOS media crew and also the viewers. It was also a fun, relaxing experience for the students and the media crew, which also encouraged them to think creatively and differently.
