After second wave of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the HelpAge Eye Hospital that performs free cataract surgeries for senior citizens resumed operations last week, keeping in line with health guidelines.

HelpAge Chairman Tilak de Zoysa said arrangements were made to reopen the eye hospital following requests made by senior citizens.

HelpAge Eye Hospital Manager Lakshman Amaratunga said cataract surgeries would be performed from tomorrow and requested patients to contact the hospital on 0112589450 /0112500056 to avoid any inconvenience.  The hospital at Sinsapa Road, Colombo 6 (opposite Savoy Cinema) will perform 20 free cataract surgeries a day on under-privileged senior citizens.

HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge highlighted that the hospital has successfully completed 38,000 free cataract surgeries free of charge on senior citizens from its inception. He thanked donors for their kind gesture to make this programme a success.
