Mithasini’s ode to nature

View(s):

Young writer Mithasini Ratnayake was a winner in the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society Youth Wing’s ‘Converse to Conserve’ poetry competition ( senior category)  held recently. Published here is her winning entry:

oh,

take me to the untamed…

sacred lands,

untouched for civilizations
or so

where you barely encapsulate

the subtle secrets of

silverton trees,

and the woeful whispers of the

warm winds.

Willowy woods,

where infinite arches

of entwined branches

reach out, aching to touch one another

and humbled tree trunks lie,

waiting to be noticed.

Where in

bounteous bodies of
golden water,

mud massages

the soles of your callow feet

and a temptatious thirst,

one you never knew existed within you

is ever so palatably

quenched

where in

the heart of the frenzied forests

the carefree cry of an

innocent fawn

makes you wish

civilization never impeded

with the untamed at all
