Chathra’s ‘Ayu’ competes at Barcelona

‘Aloka Udapadi’ famed Chara Weeraman’s second film ‘Ayu’ has represented Sri Lanka at the 8th Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain.
The film is featured in the Discoveries Section and it competes for the Best Film, the Best Director and the Best Screenplay with 19 films representing 12 countries including Iran, Korea, China, Indian and Japan. Started on October 28 the festival will go on till December 8 and it will feature 118 film representing Asian and Asia-Pacific regions. The first Sri Lankan film represented the Official Competition Section of the Asian Film Festival Barcelona was Sanjeewa Pushpakumara’s ‘Devena Vihagun’ (Burning Birds) in 2017 and Chathra’s film is the second film to represent Sri Lanka at the festival. In January ‘Ayu’ was screened at Dhaka International Film Festival.
The film stars Jagath Manuwarna, Malani Fonseka, Ashan Dias, Kenara Weeratynga, Samanalee Fonseka, Thumindu Dodenthenna, Priyantha Sirikumara, Udara Abeysundara, Nalin Lusena, Dasun Pathirana and Sampath Jayaweera.
The story by Saman Weeraman and screenplay by Chathra Weeraman and Shakthi Weerainsghe.
Cinematograph by Kalinga Deshapriya, editor is Saman Elvitigala, musical score by Milinda Tennakone, art director Bimal Dushmantha and sound designer is Sasika Ruwan Marasinghe. Colour grading by Dinidu Jagoda, costume designing by award winning Kumara Karawdeniya and make up by Harsha Manjula and production manager is Iresh Karunaratne and assistant director is Chamara Selarath and line producers are Primal Ranasinghe and Sashika Ganegoda. ‘Ayu’ is produced by retired Army Commander Daya Ratnayake.
