The Ranajayapura cricketers with the Sports Minister

The group of aspiring cricketers of Ranajayapura Vidyalaya, Kekirawa were already facing difficulties in their cricket training due to lack of basic facilities, until an unknown group or persons deliberately set fire to the only lacklustre facility they had.

The damage was huge from the eyes of the Ranajayapura cricketers, but for privileged schools it may have been just a minor setback. The hooligans have set fire on the matting these cricketers used to practice and losing their only and precious equipment demoralised the Ranajayapura cricketers.

However the young cricketers received a lifeline when their plight was brought to the eyes of the higher authorities in Colombo. Eventually the cricketers were summoned by the Minister of Sports, Namal Rajapaksa, who mediated with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to provide them with the much needed cricket gears.

The donation included equipments these young cricketers were dreaming of having — a brand new matting and two full bags of new cricket gears. The Minister not only provided transport back  and forth to the cricketers, but also provided them the logistic facilities to transport the goods to Kekirawa.

The head coach of Ranajayapura Vidyalaya, Ajith Bandara and Head of Human Resources of SLC, Major Tanesh Dias were also present with the cricketers when they met the Sports Minister last week.
