He arrived in Sri Lanka on August 16 from Dubai. He was identified as a COVID-19 patient following a PCR test conducted at the time and admitted to the Welikanda Hospital. He was subjected to three more PCR tests at the hospital. After the third test, which cleared him of the disease, he was discharged on September 10 with instructions to self-quarantine at home till September 24.

Chilaw Base Hospital Director Dr Kapila Mallawaarachchi said the patient was admitted to the Chilaw Base Hospital on September 17 following a sudden illness. After a PCR test confirmed him to be a COVID-19 patient, he was transferred to the Iranawila COVID-19 Treatment Centre.
The director said the patient’s mother who had stayed with him in the same house was to be brought to the hospital for a PCR test.
