Street Food Festival by LECS to promote unique food heritage of Sri Lanka

The Street Food Festival will be held on October 17 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Western Car Park area of BMICH, Colombo.  The event is organised by Lanka Exhibition and Conference Service (Pvt) Ltd (LECS).

In celebration of our diverse food culture, the festival aims to promote the unique food heritage of Sri Lanka, with multiple options of varying cuisines, available at affordable prices, making this by far the biggest street food festival to hit in Colombo. The purpose of the festival is to bring street food vendors in the mainstream food scene so that they get their deserved space in the cities and be respected by people.

The food booths will comprise of various flavours from authentic Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese, Mexican and Italian to name a few. Seafood, BBQ, Grilled, Flamed, Vegan and Vegetarian it may be – a tantalising treat guaranteed to make any food lover drool.

This will help in building up the confidence of our citizens in the food they get, especially the food available across the streets. The increased focus on improving the nutritional value of our traditional cuisines, promoting dietary diversification will further enrich the eating experiences for domestic and international tourists alike, and pave the way towards better economic growth, promotion of food culture in our country. In addition, it promises to be a fun and exciting event that includes a range of entertainments that will be featured to cater to the varied audiences.

This effort would go a long way to inspire citizens to trust the safety and hygiene of Street Food. Going forward, the framework will help vendors in recognising their skills and would play an inspirational role in creating a culture of safe food across streets in our country. With an expected footfall of over 10, 000 people, this 2 day long Mega event is a one stop destination to bring together the promoters of local and traditional foods.

This event is organised under the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines / Circulars issued by the Ministry of Health.
