Tourists stranded without transport to get to the airport could call the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority on the hotline ‘1912’ or the Police to make transport arrangements, an official said.

At present, there were 29,000 tourists in the country and any of them facing transport issues could call for assistance, said Dr Mahesh Priyadharshana of the inbound National Tourist Guides Lecturers Association. He is working with the Tourism Development Authority on a voluntary basis.

He said the Authority had made arrangements with a private taxi services, hotel tourist car services and major tour operators.

He said the tour companies would have to bear the cost if the tourists had come through them. If they had come on their own, they would be asked to pay on an individual basis.

The visas for tourists have already been extended by one month.

Dr. Priyadharshana said in the event of the absence of flights the agents would have to make arrangements for charter flights.
