Not often do the seemingly different spheres of art and technology meet. Artist  Ravi Kalubowilage is one who doesn’t view these worlds as separate, but instead as an extension of each another.

An award-winning watercolour artist, Ravi’s paintings are being exhibited this weekend at the Lionel Wendt Art Centre.

His exhibition “A Journey of Reminiscence into a World of Fantasy – A childhood nostalgically captured and affectionately brought to life” provides a glimpse into his roots. “I have only fond memories of my hometown. I was able to build my adult life on the strong foundation of wholesomeness, diversity, inclusivity and most of all unity from my life in Keragala,” he says.

Ravi Kalubowilage

Ravi’s artistic journey began as a young boy at Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and it was while pursuing his secondary education that his study of art evolved from a traditional experience to one involving an exploration of technological artistic mediums. This is when he discovered graphics.

He was an Assistant Art Director for the movie ‘Sihina Deshayak’ and ventured into the advertising industry as a 3D/ Graphic Designer rising to be Creative Director, working with some of Sri Lanka’s biggest brands. He would later join MAS Holdings where he holds the post of Assistant Manager of the Group’s creative team.

Ravi who widened his artistic skills under Vishwanatha Thenuwara, has represented Sri Lanka at art competitions in many countries winning awards and medals for his work.

The exhibition is on today at the Lionel Wendt Gallery.
