Two committees to review school text books, including sex-ed book

Two committees have been appointed to review the content and pictures in school text books and revise them accordingly, a senior Education Ministry official said.

He said one committee would examine whether the text book content creates misconceptions, leads to rifts between communities and religions and whether the pictures and colours used to give a wrong interpretation.

The committee will give its recommendations for the government to revise the text books for next year.

The official said the other committee would look into complaints that the content in a grade seven book on sex education was not suitable for students.

After a controversy arose recently, the Ministry suspended the distribution of the book, while it also put on hold a sex education book for grade eight students. (DW)
