The 42nd First XI cricket encounter between Trinity College, Kandy and Nalanda College, Colombo will be played on January 20 and 21 at the Asgiriya ground in Kandy.

With the theme ‘Spirit of cricket legacy for future generations’, the glittering trophy named after two cricketing greats produced by the two highly respected academic institutions in Sri Lanka — Trinity and Nalanda. The cricket encounter between the two schools has been an annual encounter in the schools cricket calendar since 1978.

Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene, or Sanga and Mahela as they are dearly called, by the cricket loving public all over the world, are two gentlemen who have shown their willingness to contribute to society on countless occasions. The friendship and the bond between the two legendary Sri Lanka cricketers, is a classic example of their commitment to the sport, in particular and the society in general.

Trinity College, together with Nalanda College 88 Group, under the auspices of Old Boys Association and the Past Cricketers’ Association of Nalanda College, are organising the traditional encounter this season. Last year, in the inaugural encounter for the Sanga-Mahela Trophy, Trinity beat Nalanda by 47 runs to become the first holders of this prestigious silverware.
