H.A.M. Rimzan of Moors SC clinched the Six Red Ball National Snooker Championships by six frames to three in the 11 frame finale against M. Thaha of MICH concluded at the MICH billiards table in Colombo yesterday.

The winner went through some anxious moments as he conceded the first frame to his opponent in a closely fought game.

Rimzan made it one each with a second frame win but Thaha struck back to take the lead before Rimzan pulled off back to back wins to take a one frame lead (3-2) at the end of the first session.

The resumption of the second session saw Rimzan playing with much more confidence as he clinched the sixth and seventh frames to stretch his lead to 5-2, but Thaha decreased his opponents with a win in the eighth frame before Rimzan sealed the game in his favour with a win in the ninth frame which ensured him the title.

In the run up to the final, Rimzan got the better of M. Sherifdeen of Army while Thaha overcame S.H.M. Aslam of MSC in the two semi-final encounters.

Earlier in the day, the play off for the third slot between M.S. Sherifdeen and S.H.M. Aslam saw Sherifdeen coming out victorious by three frames to one.

The Six Red Ball Snooker National Championship conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka sponsored by Malship Group of Companies and fought out for the late Ajward Hashim Challenge Trophy saw the participation of over 125 cueists around the island.
