Vantage FA Cup reaches Round of 16 stage

The pre-quarter-final round of the Vantage FA Cup will be worked off on January 3, 4 and 5 in Colombo, according to the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL). The round of 16 matches will take place in three venues namely Sugathadasa Stadium, Football Complex, Kelaniya and Football Complex, Baddegana.

The following teams qualified from the round of 32: Defenders, Upcountry Lions, Civil Security, Saunders, Blue Star, Red Rose, Police, Prisons, Young Star, Renown, Blue Eagle, Java Lane, New Youngs, Singing Fish, Sea Hawks and Red Sun.

This year’s FA Cup began in March with the participation of a record breaking 827 teams representing 63 football leagues across the island. The competition was scheduled to be completed this year but was postponed because of the Easter attacks and inclement weather conditions.

The semi-finals and finals are expected to completed in February. Last year’s the championship was won by Army with Saunders emerging runners-up.
