AIS shines at Edexcel – bags 16 awards

The annual High Achievers Awards night of Pearson Edexcel, Sri Lanka was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre.

Asian International School [ AIS ] bagged 16 awards at this award ceremony which was a remarkable feat for a school of this scale. Lashwinth Suresh and Tellulah Fernando were recognised for obtaining 4A* at the Edexcel Advanced Level examination in June 2019. In addition Harin Perera, Isaaf Zuhree and Shaneeza Farooz all obtained 3A* at this examination

Harin Perera is now pursuing a Law degree at the University of Cambridge and has already secured a place in the Cambridge University Debating team. Lashwinth is pursuing Mechanical Engineering at Drexel University while Insaaf is pursuing a Bachelor of Information Technology at the University of Technology in Sydney. Insaaf also had the distinction of obtaining a World prize for Applied Information & Communication Technology at the awards night. Tellulah Fernando is hoping to pursue a Chemistry Honours Degree while Shaneeza Farooz is enrolled in a BSc in Economics and Management programme at the University of Toronto.

Six students of AIS were also recognized for their outstanding results at the Edexcel IGCSE examination held in May 2019. Yehalah Fernando obtained the highest grade 9 in Nine subjects, while Yaqub Jaward secured a 9 grade in Eight subjects.

Theshan Dassanayake, Hatim Rehmanjee, Yaqub Zuresh  and Janushayan Ganeshamoorthy all carried away High Achiever awards for outstanding IGCSE results. Yaqub Zuresh also secured the Sri Lanka prize for Economics at this examination. AIS Students went on to shine at the Pearsons Lower Secondary examination this year where Chathma Punchihewa obtained the highest mark for English in Sri Lanka while Aarabi Yuvenasan obtained the highest mark in Sri Lanka for Mathematics. Chathma also secured a prize for achieving the highest grade “S4” in English, Mathematics and Science.

“These remarkable achievements are a testimony to the high standard of education offered at AIS which provided them with the impetus to pursue higher education at prestigious Universities of the world”, said AIS Principal, Harshana Perera.
