Plenty to choose from: Cushion covers, embroidery and something for the foodies

An Affair with Craft by Sureni is a needlework, craft and artisan-ware sale that will be held on Saturday, November 30 at the Girls’ Friendly Society Hall from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.  In focus, will be her tribute to the resurgence of the art of patchwork in a lovely array of quilts in various sizes, table runners and other items.  Sureni has aimed to inject new life into the timeless textile craft of patchwork and quilting giving the items her own seal of impeccable piecing, intricate quilting and dazzling colour combinations.

Patchwork, a craft that enjoyed great popularity in the past has made a comeback as people seek to own more sustainable products.  Far from being a thrift craft created by using leftover scraps, piecing pleasing colour combinations takes effort, patience and thought. Sureni’s attention to detail is evident in all the items she has created.

A gifted needle and craftswoman, having dabbled in many fabric-related crafts, her love affair with patchwork and quilting rose to the fore when she invested in a quilting machine.  It gave her inherent skills a fillip as she was able to create timeless patchwork items in a smaller timeframe.

Showcasing an eclectic mix of the finest, contemporary wares from local artisans, there will be items for every fastidious shopper to choose from. Christmas Décor, Zipper pulls and bookmarks in metal by Charmaine, Jams and chutneys by Rochelle, Hand-embroidered linen and Brussels Lace items by Andrea Boekel, unique pendants by Karved Inc., Homemade jams by Rochelle, Home Décor by Island Living, Fabric bags by Caryl, Embroidered towels by Leonie and elegant linen clothing by Quattro Lino.  With such an array, the event promises to be a one-stop shop to grab artisan Christmas gifts at very reasonable prices.

There will also be a bargain bin with sewing accessories such as ribbons, European laces, thread and braid with prices starting from Rs. 50.  The organisers aim to create a festive ambience and that is what the visitor is promised.

An Affair with Craft is one seasonal affair not to be missed.
