What to watch out for at the upcoming Lanka Comic Con

With Comic Con less than three weeks away, many geeks are excitedly doing their last-minute adjustments on their cosplays, and procrastinators are scrambling around in a frenzy to make sure that they can look their best during the biggest geek event of the year. This year the schedule is jam-packed with several events for geeks of all ages, whether they are cosplaying or not. Here’s what you can look forward to at this year’s Lanka Comic Con set to get underway from Dec. 7 – 8.

Activities on both days -On both days there will be a NERF Gun Shooting Range, Dungeons and Dragons, Bouncy Castle & Bouncy Slide, Live Action Role Play (LARP),Table Top Card Games and Yu-Gi-Oh.

 Day One

On December 7, there are several interesting panel discussions for geeks. The first panel discussion will be between Sri Lankan filmmakers at 11 am. At 1 pm a panel discussion on ‘Sinhala Fantasy and Science Fiction’ will take place. Delving into more serious panel discussions, ‘ LGBTQ Comics – how pop culture helps to win hearts and change minds’ will be at 3 pm.

For anime lovers, opening will happen at 12 pm. At 4 pm screening of Anime short films will also take place. At 2 pm a screening of local short films will take place giving a platform for local talent to shine. The Geek Fashion Show – LICC Jeans will take place at 4 .30 pm. The much awaited finale of the event for cosplayers who will be taking the limelight on the ramp will be from 5 pm to 6 pm.

Day Two
On December 8, while many geeks would be dreading the end of Comic Con, the panel discussions will start off with ‘Sri Lankan Computer Game Developers’ at 11 am. The Panel ‘Geeks Against Harassment’ at 12:30 will cover the important topic of harassment. ‘Comics: AOD Presents Jonathan Jason Lee’ will take place at 3 pm.

The last panel discussion will take place at 4 pm, which will see ‘Science Fiction in South Asia with Gautam Shenoy’ talked about. The film Screening of Anime Short Films will happen at 11:50 am, and the Anime Quiz will take place at 2 pm. Film Screening of Local Short Films will also take place on day two of comic con at 1:20pm. Day Two will see the winners of the Rotaract Club Cosplay Competition Winners as well as the Vote of Thanks at 6 pm.

 What to Buy

With several cool stalls, here are a few to look out for Anime Repub (Anime Merchandise), Collectique (Comic Books and  Comic Merch), Jolly’s Toy Shop (Toys and Geek Merchandise), Red Dot Geek  (Comic Books and Comic Merch), Yamato One (Anime Merchandise) and much more.

The tables section will include Tiny Local Bookshop, Boho Hype, Crinkle Craft Studio, CRATE and Smuggler’s Box and other stalls that will be full of different geeky items.

The Artists Alley will also showcase the talents of Sri Lankan artists so head over there to purchase some beautifully created artwork.
