On November 3, bakers of professional and novice levels will be congregating at the BMICH for the third annual Cake Convention. Organized by Dubai based baker Reema Siraj, the convention seeks to create a platform for bakers to meet each other and hone their skills. “Networking opportunities, access to quality products and services, connection to the rest of the world are key elements that I felt lacking in Sri Lanka as compared to the rest of the world. Having lived in a city like Dubai, I had all these opportunities which helped me immensely to build my career at a greater pace.

Lack of such opportunities restricts our talent from reaching the international audience. The motive behind Cake Convention is to bridge this gap and take our cake talents to the international arena,” says Reema.

“This year we have a cake exhibition, competition and live size cake displays. Also, we are bringing in renowned international artists as judges who will also share their expertise with live demonstrations,” she adds.

There will be six cake artists, both local and international taking the stage. The local bakers are Vihanga Mendis and Ruvi Johnpillai-Forbes of Lotsa Dough and Amna Mohideen of Caked while international bakers Samie Ramachandran,Mito sweets, Olivia Okeke and Janet Su, will  impart their specialized knowledge.

Tickets are Rs 2,000 per head. Email Cakeconvention@gmail.com for details on how to register for the event.
