The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) last week said it will have to resort to strike action again, if the salary anomalies of over 3,000 principals is not resolved immediately.

This follows the Ministry of Education (MoE) agreeing to grant promotions to principals of public schools, stagnating since 2015.Last week, in a discussion with the Education Trade Unions and the Salaries & Cadre Commission, the MoE agreed to take up the interim proposal on salary revisions to principals, submitted on November 15, 2019?, which have been submitted to the Salaries & Cadre Commission for its observations.

However, the MoE said the implementation of the salary revisions will take time, as the Cabinet will be meeting only 2 more times, before the 2019 Presidential elections 2019.

The CTU, however, said the government granted an allowance of Rs. 15,000 to the Sri Lanka Administrative Service officers and also to the Sri Lanka Police, and likewise, the principal service also could be granted relief in a similar manner.
