Kenya’s maiden entry to Oscar’s Foreign Language film at Goethe

‘Nairobi Half Life’, Kenya’s first entry to the Best Foreign Language Oscar, directed by David ‘Tosh’ Gitonga will be screened at 7 pm on October 11 at Goethe Hall at Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.

This 2012 Kenyan drama film was selected as the Kenyan entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards.

A young, aspiring actor from upcountry Kenya dreams of becoming a success in the big city. In pursuit of this and to the chagrin of his brother and parents, he makes his way to Nairobi:the city of opportunity.

At the 33rd Durban International Film Festival, Joseph Wairimu won the award for Best Actor. He also won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Most Promising Actor from the Awards 9th ceremony.
