Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts is inviting your friend to spend their holiday in Sri Lanka, in a new campaign, as the industry tries to recover from the Easter Sunday attacks. Sri Lankan Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez will open the campaign in the first week of August.

Launching the campaign “Bring a friend home” to Sri Lanka, Cinnamon hopes to overcome challenges faced by the tourism industry by requesting fellow Sri Lankans living in the country and overseas as well as expatriates to nominate foreign friends to visit the island through an array of attractive packages.

Ms. Fernandez, former Miss Sri Lanka and current Bollywood actress will be the first visitor confirmed under this promotional campaign, celebrating her birthday in Sri Lanka with 15 of her friends from Bollywood, to kick-start the campaign early next month.

The campaign is carried out through a four-step process namely register- invite-accept-travel in which friends are encouraged to visit Sri Lanka through the website: www.bringafriendhome.com.

This gives applicants the opportunity to invite one or more friends living overseas via email, WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter and also be eligible for a raffle draw. The six month campaign is from July 30 – December 15, 2019. The invitee must travel to Sri Lanka between August 1 – December 15, 2019.

Vice President Brand Marketing Cinnamon Hotels Dileep Mudadeniya said that the private sector needed to contribute and that they cannot wait for the government to start the promotions.

On the other hand, the industry must support government initiatives, he said adding that the project was conceptualised as a sense of urgency for a 6-month period to spread a positive message about Sri Lanka for which they expect the support of all stakeholders.

Moreover, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has also been involved in the project to ensure that Sri Lankans overseas would be made aware of the project to increase travelers visiting the country.

An official from the ministry stated that already the Sri Lankan missions overseas have been informed of the campaign.

Partnering in the project are So Sri Lanka, Cinnamon Life, Kapruka, SriLankan Airlines, Triad, Colombo Jewellery Stores, eMarketing Eye, Cinnamon Air and Positive Sri Lanka.
