The School for the Deaf in Ratmalana, will be celebrating 70 years on July 14, at the School hall, from 8.30 am onwards.
It was founded in 1949, by Stanely Perera, Ryle de Mel and Dennis Fonseka.

The past pupils association of the school also invites all past school leavers to join the association in conducting projects to develop the school further in future. Under the current President of the Past Pupils Association, Shivantha Vivekanandan, who has held the post for the past 18 years, many projects were developed for the benefit of the students. Installing florescent lights and fans at the school hall, staff dining hall and senior girls Hostel, books for the school Library, Sports activities are among the projects.
