With the government taking measures for the sacred Theravada Buddhist text, the Tripitaka, to be declared as a World Heritage by the UNESCO, week-long ceremonies began yesterday to mark this historic event. On March 23, the main ceremony will be held at the Mahamaluwa of Sri Dalada Maligawa with the participation of the Mahanayake Theras and President Maithripala Sirisena.
