Trinity College snatched a thrilling 47-run victory over Nalanda College in thier Under-19 Inter-School Cricket encounter to claim the Mahela & Sanga Challenge Trophy at the Campbell Place yesterday.

Chasing 174 runs for victory, Nalanda were bowled out for 127 in their second innings, with right-arm spinner Kavishka Senadeera doing the bulk of the damage.

Senadeera completed a match bag of 11 wickets after claiming 5 for 52 and 6 for 31 in both innings.

Trinity were restricted for 145 runs in their second innings yesterday and were bowled out for 165 in the opening day after being put into bat as both teams shared honours on Day One.

On resumption yesterday from 123 for 7, Nalanda could not make any headway and were bundled out for 136, after adding just 13 runs to their overnight total.

The two schools are playing the match in honour of two top cricketers who represented the Sri Lanka national team with tremendous success — Mahela Jayawardena and Kumara Sangakkara.

St. Joseph’s College coasted to an eight wicket win over St .Sylvester’s College at Darley Road while Wesley got the better of St. Anne’s Kurunegala by nine wickets at Campbell Park.

Holy Cross Kalutara defeated Anuradhapura Central by eight wickets at Kalutara to record an outright win.
