NCC in sight of victory over hapless Moors

NCC put themselves in a strong position to register an outright win over Moors SC on the second day of the Premier League inter-club cricket tournament match played at Braybrooke Place yesterday.
NCC who put on a first innings score of 330 on the back of a fine 163 from Pathum Nissanka scored 367 for 7 declared in the second innings–setting up a massive target of 617 to win. Hasitha Boyagoda hit a brilliant century–101 in the second innings while Pathum Nissanka(84) and Chamika Karunaratne (82) scored half centuries to propel the score. Moor SC who were bowled out for 81 in the first innings were reeling at 43 for 5 at stumps.
There were two double tons scored yesterday with the first being by Colts CC batsman Priyamal Perera who made an unbeaten 206 against Badureliya SC and the other was by Sri Lanka discard Kaushal Silva who cracked an unbeaten 207 for SSC against Negombo CC.
Priyamal’s innings was a worthy knock as in fact he rescued his side when they were struggling with five of their top batsmen back in the pavilion with just 46 runs on the board to reach 419 for 9 declared.
Former national cricketer Jeevan Mendis put in a fine allround performance as he stuck an unbeaten ton for Tamil Union to add to his impressive bowling figures of 9 for 53 in the first innings in their match against Port Authority.
There were two more centuries scored with Sithara Gimhan (105) for Tamil Union against SLPA CC and Sanjika Ridma (119) for Army SC against Chilaw Marians CC. The matches will be continued today.
