SLSRFA releases its annual event calendar for 2019

The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) released its annual event calendar for 2019 where 13 local tournaments and five international assignments are involved. Among the top events lined up for 2019 are the three Under-19 Division I tournaments — the League, Sevens and the Knockout.

The Under-19 Division I and II Schools League has been scheduled from March to May 2019 followed by the Knockout Tournament which is scheduled from mid May to June first week. The Under-19 Schools Division I and II Sevens tournament has been slotted for June 15 and 16. In addition an Under-19 Provincial encounter, preferably between Colombo and Kandy has been planned for July 5.

In addition a slot for a Girls Tournament has been reserved on May 17 and 18, at the Public ground in Ruwanwella. On June 29 and 30, the SLSRFA has lined up an Under-18 Division I and II Sevens Tournament aiming at the Asian Under-20 Sevens Series, which will be held in August 2019.

Other competitions for lower age categories will be held between February and May. The Under-12 Rugby Carnival, a provincial level competition, will be held on the third week of February. The Under-14 Division I and II Tournaments are scheduled for end February while the Under-16 League Tournament will run simultaneously with the Under-19 Division I and II League Tournament between March and May. The awards ceremony for the Under-19 League Tournament will be held on June 20 in Colombo.

Among the five international assignments, the most important will be the Junior Asiad, which will be held in November 2019. The Asian Under-20 Sevens Series, will be held in August 2019 for Boys and Girls while the Asian Under-18 Sevens Tournament for Girls will be held in October followed by the Boys tournament in November.

Besides the competitions four workshops will be held throughout the year of 2019. The first of the workshops will be the ‘Laws of the Game and Regulations for Under-19 captains and coaches on February 9. A coaching clinic for junior coaches will be held in mid October, followed by the Anti Doping Workshop for senior coaches in November and a Capacity Development Programme for Masters-in-Charge in December.

In addition two Development Programmes will be held in August in Jaffna and in September in Chilaw. In total 21 school rugby events will be held throughout the year of 2019.
