The first 20 stars for Crysbro Next Champ were selected from Kandy, Kurunegala, Rathnapura, Mathale, Rakwana and Anuradhapura. Meanwhile, Crysbro Next Champ’s Facebook page will continue to serve as a platform to facilitate deserving sportspersons with financial aid and sports gear raised via crowd-funding.

Amores Sellar, Crysbro Senior Marketing Manager stressing a point

Followed by its launch on March 14, ‘Crysbro Next Champ’ is aiming to discover a total of 50 deserving young sport personalities by the end of this year, following which the company will be hosting its inaugural ‘Crysbro Next Champ National Award Ceremony’ in early 2019 to laud the spirit of Sri Lanka’s young athletes and shine a light on upcoming young sporting talent.

Thirty athletes with the potential of representing Sri Lanka at international arenas will be awarded with the ‘Crysbro Next Champ of the Year’ award over and above the standard sporting categories. Accordingly, Crysbro Next Champ hopes to comb the country in its mission to discover the country’s most promising sportsmen and women who display real talent in order to harness their true potential and support young Sri Lankans to pursue sporting excellence – both locally and globally.
The National Junior School Athletic Association along with Ministries of Sport and Education will offer their support to recognize deserving young athletes to be awarded as the winners of different categories including athletics events like: a 100metre, 400metre and high jump, while further prizes will also be awarded to top performers in cricket ‘Best Batsman Crysbro Next Champ of the Year’ and more.

At present Sri Lanka’s representation at international athletics has been limited. Only two Olympic medals have been won for the last two decades. After Susanthika Jayasinghe’s unprecedented performance at the Olympic Games, Sri Lanka has not won any medals. According to Crysbro Senior Marketing Manager, Amores Sellar, there is a great need for more young Sri Lankans to shine at international level tournaments and this is the focus which drives this project.
“Crysbro Next Champ has enabled blooming young athletes to be mentored by veterans in the field and guided on physical and dietary requirements necessary to shape them into superstar sportspersons. This will help young talent from rural and low income backgrounds receive the professional training needed to qualify for and to win international tournaments,” said Sellar.

All Sri Lankans will be able to watch and cheer on the performances of these talented young sportspersons on Channel Eye, every Saturday at 9.30 pm.
