CTU demands action against 175 teachers defying transfer orders

The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) is demanding that the Ministry of Education (MoE) take action against 175 National school teachers who have ignored their transfer orders. CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said the MoE had issued transfer orders as early as end 2017 but, some National school teachers continue to attend the same school, in connivance with its Principal.

It is learned that the Principals of these schools have written to the MoE stating various reasons to detain them. The MoE, last year, did an audit on all teachers with over 10 years in a school and issued transfer orders to 11,000 teachers in the 353 National schools in the country.

Stalin said the ‘disobedient’ teachers’ action discriminates against other teachers in their new posts. “The MoE has to immediately look into this and remedy matters,” he said, adding that, a further audit on the teachers who have ignored orders, will reveal the actual numbers. – CC
