Mothers and daughters take the ramp

Pramodi Jayawardana of Raffles Design Institute walked away with the title of LICC Chokolaate Mother Daughter Fashion Designer 2018. Emerging victorious in both casual wear and evening wear segments, Pramodi’s theme was ‘Beauty of Nature’. She received the trophy from entrepreneur Otara Gunawardene.

Fifteen finalists vied for the honours as the 9th anniversary edition of the Chokolaate Mother Daughter Fashion Designer contest unfolded on May 26 at the SLECC.

Senushi Fonseka from the University of Moratuwa was adjudged first runner-up and carried away the trophy for the sports wear segment while Sanju Uralagamage was adjudged second runner-up. Surangika Silva and her daughter Suzan Shenali Silva, models for Senushi, were picked as the best mother-daughter models of the evening.

Thamaya Rajapakse was the most popular designer and the Chokolaate Choice Award and Pulse Choice Award went to Naweena Mary and Nabeela Yassen respectively.

Chokolaate MDFD is a tribute to mothers in celebration of Mothers’ Day and a platform for young designers, said Michelle Gunasekara, Editor of Chokolaate Magazine, addressing the audience. Niloufer Anverally, Rajini De Silva, Sharmila Ruberu, Chandi Aluwihare and Danielle Kerkoven made up the panel of judges.

The Mother-Daughter models walked the ramp showcasing the designs of Anne Nisanka, Ayodhya De Alwis, Charu Liyanage, Damsha Jayasundara, Hashan Madushanka, Naweena Mary, Mithini Wathsala, Nabeela Yassen, Nipuni Jayamaha, Pavithra Pradeep, Pramodi Jayawardana, Sanju Uralagamage, Senushi Fonseka, Sithum Udara and Thamaya Rajapakse. They presented their creations in three segments; casual wear, sports wear and evening wear.

The event also featured exhibit stalls from Raffles Design Institute, Open University of Sri Lanka and University of Moratuwa.

The Design School segment featured collections from aspiring designers of Raffles Design Institute, Open University of Sri Lanka, University of Moratuwa and Asian Academy of Commercial Studies.

The show was choreographed by Rozanne Dias and Chrissy Rozairo was the official hairdresser.
