Workshop focuses on intellectually disabled

The Association for the Intellectually Disabled – Sri Lanka (AIDSL) held an awareness workshop for the benefit of parents, instructors and caregivers in the Monaragala District recently.

The workshop was held at the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretariat office with Uva Provincial Council Social Service Director H.C. A.H. Priyanthi taking part as the chief guest. The workshop was attended by 112 people working with persons with intellectual disabilities.

Several resource persons addressed the workshop and they included Dr. S.L.A.S. Madhubhani Miyadala, Dr. J.M. Wimalasuriya (Medical Officer, Mental Health), Thanamalwila’s Social Development Officer U.H.S. Abeykoon, Monaragala District Social Service Officer Gamini Wijekoon and Physiotherapist Ali Shaadi.

The Sith Sevena Child Development Institute’s Director Lanka Perera also assisted the programme while AIDSL members, including Honorary Secretary Nandhini Wijeratnam, Uda Widanagamage and Vijai Kottegoda also participated in the programme.
