Rain washed off play in the 2nd Swarna-Neela Annual Cricket encounter between Wadduwa Girls Central College and Mahanama Navodya Girls School, Panadura at the Panadura Esplanade last Monday.

Mahanama Navodya School and Wadduwa Girls school were declared joint winners to share the glittering Swarna-Neela trophy. Rain gods had the last say in this much awaited girls big clash but unfortunately when the game was heading for an interesting close with Wadduwa school in the front heavy rain brought proceedings to an unexpected close.

Wadduwa Central taking first lease of the wicket scored 150 for the loss of seven wickets off 38 overs. Ishani Hansika and Navodya Nethmini were the main run getters scoring 44 each. With the dismissal of both these batters Wadduwa lost wickets in regular intervals and at the end of their allotted overs scored 150 runs.

Sawindi Nimalsha and Chanchala Dewmini troubled the Wadduwa batters to some extent and captured 2 for 21 and 2 for 27 respectively.

Mahanama Navodya School in their turn were not happily placed as top four of their batters were dismissed cheaply with the scoreboard reading 29 off 11 overs.

Then came the rain and the umpires abandoned any further play for the day. If not for the rain the game could have gone either way as Mahanama Navodya school batters were capable of turning any game in their favour.

Chief Scores:

Wadduwa Girls Central School-150 for 7 (38) (Isani Hansika 44, Navodya Nethmini 44, Savindi Nimalsha 2 for21, Chanchala Dewmini 2 for 27)
Mahanama Navodya Girls School-29 for 4 off 11 overs when play was abandoned.

Best Fielder: Sachini Umega (Mahanama Navodya)
Best Bowler: Sawindi Nimalsha (Mahanama Navodya)
