The Mother Sri Lanka movement (MSL) celebrated Independence Day inviting all Sri Lankans to join and celebrate what it means to be a Sri Lankan, or their “Sri Lankan ness” . It was an opportunity to put aside all differences and appreciate and celebrate the good things about our motherland, the positive values of  Sri Lankan people.

Several activities were held on Saturday, February 3 at the Viharamahadevi Park.

The Love Sri Lanka festival began with the hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem with the participation of State Minister of Finance Eran Wickremaratne and former Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena, MP. The   final judging of the all island schools song and drama competitions was held – children from all 9 provinces had taken part in this competition and winners were selected at National Level.

The awards ceremony saw the schools competition  winners and the all island souvenir design competition winners receiving their awards from President Maithripala Sirisena. The Secretary to the Ministry of Education and distinguished invitees from the sponsors and other well-wishers were also present.

The day ended with a musical show featuring ‘Infinity’ live in performance.
