Pathum Hasaranga of Vidyaloka Vidyalaya, Galle became the first cricketer to reach the milestone of 1000 runs in the ongoing Inter-School Under-19 Cricket Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association.

The right-handed top order batsman reached 1000 runs in the Division II game against Sastrananda Vidyalaya Dehiwela, by scoring 182 runs off 144 deliveries. His elegant knock included 14 boundaries and 15 sixes. Prior to this game, he had accumulated 860 runs from six matches.

Hasaranga also became the first batsman to score a triple century this season, when he made 300 not out against Gankanda Maha Vidyalaya, Balangoda while also making 151 runs against Madampe Central College. He also scored 129 runs against Presidents College Maharagama and another century of 112 runs against Loyala College Kochchikade in the first innings.

By now Hasaranga has turned out at seven matches for his school and has scored 1042 runs only facing 845 deliveries in 10 innings. That includes a massive tally of 89 boundaries and 60 sixes, a triple century, four centuries and a couple of half centuries. This marks as one of the rarest occasions where a schoolboy cricketer had reached 1000 runs in less number of matches and innings and with most number of fours and sixes.
