Th Northern Provincial Council (NPC) Education Ministry last week said it has requested the Ministry of Education (MoE) to give teacher appointments to fill the entire 676 vacancies in the Northern Province.

Secretary E. Ravintharan said that of the 1,044 volunteer teachers interviewed in Colombo, only 182 passed the interview, and the centre directed they be absorbed into the main stream. Candidates interviewed were required to have 3 Advanced Level Passes and log books indicating 3 years’ attendance before 31.12.2013, as volunteer teachers in schools.
However, it is learned that several candidates could not produce log books, citing they were lost during the war.

The NPC Education Ministry said they have written to the centre seeking all 676 appointments be given to the interviewed candidates. “Till then we will not give appointments to the 182 candidates. We intend to give them all at once,” Ravinthiran said.- CC
